    Hello Community, and Happy Wednesday!

We've been discussing how different technologies and funding mechanisms might be considered in the context of access and distribution of complex medicines to low and middle income countries. For this week's Wondering Wednesday, I wanted to share this program that comes out of Purdue University and the Medical Missionary of Mary in Tanzania focusing on capacity building for pharmaceutical scientists in Tanzania. This was shared with me recently by @Reinhard Vehring, and I'm really interested in this concept of supporting global health through training and education and capacity building rather than or in addition to the more standard discussions around distribution and access.

What do you think? Could this approach result in the development of medicines that are more appropriate for the populations in which they are developed? Do you know of other programs with this focus? How can we as pharmaceutical scientists engage and support these efforts? What are the challenges?

    Thanks Erica, Thanks Reinhard

I find this local development & manufacturing model very positive. My main reason is that supply can be planned around the local need for product, and not based on a global supply model run by a large pharmaceutical company or indeed a global NGO.
