As a past chair of WIPS, I'm thrilled to see how the community has grown and the programming/content that's been generated. It was such a pleasure and honor to lead the community in the early stages and I learned so much from all of you about what's important to women scientists and supporters. Volunteer to Lead an AAPS Community!<u5:p></u5:p>

One of the most critical volunteer positions in AAPS is chair of an AAPS Community Chair. Members depend on these leaders to drive professional interactions, networking, and educational growth in their community.<u5:p></u5:p>
<u5:p></u5:p>
AAPS Community Chairs are able to expand their networks and polish their leadership skills while helping to develop scientific programming for the members of their community.<u5:p></u5:p>
<u5:p></u5:p>
To become an AAPS Community Chair, members must volunteer for a three-year term. Appointees serve as the Community Vice Chair in the first year, Chair in the second year, and Immediate Past Chair in the final year.<u5:p></u5:p>

To qualify for consideration, you must: <u5:p></u5:p>
- Be a member of AAPS at the time of application and throughout service<u5:p></u5:p>
- Have 3-5 hours per month to serve, including:<u5:p></u5:p>
- Leading the community's monthly leadership meeting<u5:p></u5:p>
- Attending the monthly AAPS Community Forum<u5:p></u5:p>
- Developing programming for the community<u5:p></u5:p>
- Have experience posting in the AAPS Communities<u5:p></u5:p>
- Have read the AAPS Community Chairs Guide (PDF)<u5:p></u5:p>

AAPS prefers applicants that have: <u5:p></u5:p>
- Experience chairing a committee<u5:p></u5:p>
- Past volunteer experience in AAPS programming, such as developing a symposium, presenting a poster, submitting an article to AAPS Newsmagazine, leading an Ask the Experts session, etc.<u5:p></u5:p>
- A mature network in the scientific community<u5:p></u5:p>
- 5+ years in their scientific profession<u5:p></u5:p>
- Topical knowledge related to the community's scope <u5:p></u5:p>
