SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus pandemic with several fatal cases of pneumonia, only recently had oral antiviral treatments to administer in the early infection phase. Several existing drugs have been anecdotally repurposed or investigated as antivirals. Critically, these clinical studies were essentially performed by systemic drug administration (i.e., oral, injection), whereas the virus infects the human body priory via upper respiratory tract.
The upper airways drug deposition by nose inhalation of antiviral powders is an administration route that concentrates the drug exactly in the cells where the virus replicates before reaching the lungs.
