MSE WEBINAR JULY 18: MANIFOLD EMBEDDING OF MOLECULAR QUANTUM INFORMATION FOR CHEMICAL DEEP LEARNING
We are excited to announce the first MSE webinar July 18, 2023 12:30 EDT by Dr. Tonglei Li. This webinar is focused on AI tool applications in the earlier phase of drug discovery and development.
The recent popularity of ChatGPT has put AI or artificial intelligence, once again, in the spotlight. As we call for AI applications to accelerate the drug discovery and development process and eventually benefit the patients we serve, there is a great need for AAPS scientists to understand the data-driven methodology and demystify the concept. Thanks to the astonishing development in both hardware and software of machine and deep learning (ML/DL), AI attempts to identify underlying relationships or functions from data, adapt to heterogenous data sources to find new information, and make predictions with trained models.
In drug discovery, AI tools which are designed to learn latent connections from large datasets can be used to predict molecular structure-activity relationships and structures and de novo-design new molecular entities that satisfy desired molecular interactions. In drug development, AI tools are capable of predicting various physicochemical and ADME-T properties and have the potential to help design formulations and analyze large and complicated clinical data. A decision may be made at a more rational and efficient level based on existing data. In drug manufacturing, AI tools can be applied to improve the manufacturing process in areas of quality control, predictive maintenance, supply chain management, product optimization, process automation, etc.
Dr. Li is Professor and Allen Chao Endowed Chair in the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University.
