AAPS Global Health Community is sponsoring a webinar on "The Evolving Paradigm of Sickle Cell Disease Management", on December 17, 2024, 12:30 - 2 PM, EST, by Dr. Vivien Sheehan, Director of Sickle Cell Translational Research, Emory University. GA.
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a hereditary blood disorder caused by a mutation in the hemoglobin gene, resulting in abnormal hemoglobin (HbS) that distorts red blood cells, leading to blockages, pain, anemia, and severe complications. It primarily affects people of African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and South Asian descent, with high prevalence in Sub-Saharan Africa and approximately 100,000 cases in the U.S., mostly among African Americans. The webinar will cover the global prevalence of SCD, with a focus on its incidence among African American and Hispanic-American populations, explore the effectiveness of current pharmacological treatments, and evaluate the safety, efficacy, and future impact of emerging gene therapies.

FYI that this will be rescheduled to 2025 due to low registration, presumably due to proximity to holidays. We look forward to seeing you on the rescheduled date!
